Rollinsford’s historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House will host Banjos, Bones, and Ballads, a program of tavern songs, banjo tunes, early hymns, sailor songs, and humorous stories by well-known singer and folklorist Jeff Warner, on Thursday, August 18 at 6:30 pm. Funded by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities with additional local support from Janco Electronics, this program is free and open to the public, and no pre-registration is required.
Jeff presents musical traditions from the lumber camps of the Adirondack Mountains and the whaling ports of New England to the Outer Banks fishing villages of North Carolina, and accompanies his songs on concertina, banjo, guitar, and several pocket instruments, such as bones and spoons. He is a Folklorist and Community Scholar for the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and a former State Arts Council Fellow. A founder of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival, Jeff has toured nationally for the Smithsonian Institution and has recorded for Flying Fish, Rounder Records and other labels.
The public is invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy this program in the garden of the Wentworth House. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved to First Parish Federated Church, 150 Main Street, South Berwick, ME.
Located on Water Street in Rollinsford, the circa 1701 Wentworth House is maintained by the Association for Rollinsford Culture and History (ARCH) as an educational and cultural center.
