Geographic Information System (GIS) users in New Hampshire are being asked to provide input on the creation of a new GIS user group, according to a May 15 announcement. The initiative seeks feedback from individuals who use GIS technology for work or personal interest and want to connect with others in the state.

The effort aims to bring together those interested in learning from each other and staying updated on new GIS technologies. Organizers say they hope the group will address questions about its purpose, coordination, offerings for local users, integration with existing resources, and opportunities for involvement.

“While the answers to many of these questions remain to be determined, the answer to the last one (three?) is straightforward: Get involved by providing your feedback,” organizers said. Interested participants are encouraged to complete an online survey sharing their thoughts on how such a group could benefit them. In addition, three discussion sessions are scheduled: May 29 (remote), June 2 (in-person at NH Fish and Game Department in Concord), and June 11 (remote). More sessions will be offered later for those unable to attend these dates.

Anyone with questions can contact Shane Bradt, Extension Specialist in Geospatial Technologies at UNH Cooperative Extension. University of New Hampshire Extension serves as the outreach arm of the University of New Hampshire and partners with county, state, and federal entities for programming; it also utilizes county offices along with specialized facilities like the Geospatial Technologies Training Center and engages roughly 6,000 volunteers annually across 14 programs according to the official website.

The broader goal is enhancing communities throughout New Hampshire through reliable expertise, hands-on learning opportunities, collaborative strategies supporting healthy communities and resilient ecosystems according to the official website.
