Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce: Jewelry Creations celebrates 40 years in business

Jc

Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on October 15.

DOVER – “Stronger than ever,” is how Jewelry Creations owner, Kelly Glennon, describes the iconic jewelry store located in the heart of Dover’s downtown, as the staff and their loyal customers celebrate 40 years of growth and success.

Jewelry Creations was established in 1981 in its current location, but with a much smaller footprint. What began as a small jewelry repair shop has grown to include nearly 3600 square feet, including a retail showroom, shop, custom jewelry design, and office space. Dover native Kelly Glennon, and her husband Doug, purchased the business from its founding owners in 2017 and have enjoyed modernizing the business, complete with a full e-commerce website.

The Glennon’s attribute much of the store’s success to their dedicated staff; many of whom have worked for the store for well over a decade. “When a customer walks through the door it’s like greeting a member of the family,” said Doug. “Our staff know their names and, chances are, they know their kids, parents and pets' names too. And they know what jewelry they own- and this is exactly why our customers keep coming back. We never take the relationships we have built with our customers for granted."

Known for their annual trips to Antwerp, Belgium to hand select diamonds for their clients, the Glennon’s take the responsibility that comes along with business ownership very seriously. “We are very selective about what we sell in the store,” noted Kelly. “And, in an ever-changing industry, we take every opportunity to educate ourselves and our team; making sure that we consistently evolve to keep up with the latest trends in bridal and fashion jewelry."

While the store has enjoyed significant retail growth, the Glennon’s are certainly aware of how valuable their onsite jewelry repair shop is. “Jewelry is emotional and sentimental and when the time comes to have repairs or maintenance done, nobody wants to have their jewelry shipped out," says Doug. "Our customers appreciate that their jewelry stays here while the work is done. Jewelry repair is a big part of our business and a category that continues to grow year over year."

“We are so fortunate to be in the business of love," says Kelly. “Playing a role in peoples' love stories is an honor and is exactly what will keep us going for another 40 years.”

While much has changed over 40 years, much remains the same for Jewelry Creations.
