Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce: Wentworth-Douglass Sets New Record, Leads Seacoast in Births

11

Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on February 8.

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital set a record in 2021 with nearly 1,500 births, more than the four other Seacoast hospitals combined.

The hospital had 1,486 deliveries in 2021, an increase of 134 from 2020. Wentworth-Douglass delivered more babies than Exeter Hospital, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, York Hospital, and Frisbie Memorial Hospital combined.

“It’s always exciting to see birth numbers increase, but I’m certainly not surprised. It’s a credit to our entire staff, who go above-and-beyond every day to ensure every family who comes to Wentworth-Douglass walks away with the most positive experience possible,” said Nicole Pendenza, Assistant Vice President of the Women and Children’s Center. “We’ve also developed such a positive reputation in the community, which is why so many moms continue to turn to us.”

The U.S. Census reported that births in the United States have declined during the pandemic, a phenomenon that was not seen on the Seacoast last year.

“Birth volume is certainly not going down on the Seacoast. In fact, all five hospitals had more births in 2021, which is a sign our region continues to grow,” Pendenza said.
