Strafford County and Rockingham County gardeners are encouraged to plant an extra row of produce this summer for local food pantries.
University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension is pleased to share that individuals and families can once again serve as food access champions by signing up for the Plant A Row Program for the 2022 summer! Participation is open to all ages, and participants don’t need to be 4-H members to sign up. Program participation is free.
Granite Staters are facing food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic hardships. Most significantly, families are experiencing barriers to accessing fresh and healthy local produce. Plant A Row is a neighbors-helping-neighbors initiative, organized through 4-H and UNH Cooperative Extension in Strafford County and Rockingham County. The idea behind this initiative is simple: plant an extra row in your garden bed or plant within an extra container and donate the produce from it to a participating food pantry. This produce will ensure that more families can enjoy fresh, local produce and help provide healthier food choices. When people pledge to plant an extra row, they will be provided with a free gardening kit (seeds, fabric vegetable container, row marker, sticker and colorful tote bag), growing tips, activities, recipes and other resources!
