DOVER — Dover400, the committee organizing Dover’s 400th Anniversary celebrations, is pleased to announce the publication of a new book, “Dover Heritage Walks: A Compendium of Past Walks and Reveals”. This 175-page volume, which covers over 250 Dover historical properties and sites, relates the history of hundreds of buildings, people, churches, and businesses in the Garrison City.

The idea for the book arose from an existing series of twenty-nine “Heritage Walk” brochures which were produced annually from 1979—2007. In each of those years, a different Dover neighborhood was chosen and significant research into its history was conducted. Volunteers then led walking tours of that neighborhood. But with such valuable information scattered among so many separate pamphlets, it was difficult to navigate the history.

With the publication of this new compilation volume, Dover history comes alive! The original brochure information has been edited and updated, and new color photos now illustrate each property. Designed with a spiral binding, the book can easily be carried on an exploratory walk, or read comfortably in an armchair. The book includes a Table of Contents, organized by street address, and an Index with surnames and/or business names. The new volume sells for $30 and is available at the Dover Chamber of Commerce, the City Clerk’s Office at Dover City Hall, and at the Dover Public Library. All proceeds will help support the Dover400 Celebration events from June 24 to July 4, 2023.

Dover400 is also conducting two fundraising campaigns, “$400 for 400”, an effort to solicit 400 donors at $400, and “The 1623 Society” with membership available for a donation of $1623. Donations may be sent to Dover400, 24 Chestnut St., Dover, NH 03820. For more information, please visit www.Dover400.org.
