The library will be closed on Monday, February 20 in celebration of the Presidents Day holiday. The week following we will be bustling with all sorts of programming for February vacation! If you’re looking for something fun (and free!) to do during the week with your kids or teens, be sure to stop by the library. Read on for a full list of all the wonderful events we will be hosting (we have some for the adults, too!)

TEEN EVENTS

Take & Make Kits: Handwarmers (In-Person)

Tuesday, February 21 to Saturday, February 25

Teens entering grades 6-12 are welcome to bring home a Take & Make Kit filled with supplies needed to make a small craft. This week's kit will contain supplies to sew your own hand warmer. Kits can be picked up in the Teen Loft (one per teen, please) while supplies last!

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Marathon (In-Person)

Tuesday, February 21 from 3 PM to 8 PM

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to a free double feature showing of Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (both rated PG-13)! Pizza and refreshments will be served! No registration required.

Silent Book Group (In-Person)

Thursday, February 23 at 2 PM

Looking for some quiet time to dedicate to reading your latest book? Look no further! Join us for some time relaxing with your peers while everyone reads their own book of choice. Please feel free to wear comfy clothes/pjs and bring and blankets, pillows, etc.! Snacks and hot chocolate will be served for maximum coziness.

Jackbox Game Afternoon (In-Person)

Friday, February 24 at 2 PM

Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to join us for a fun session of Jackbox Games! Participants will need to have access to a smart phone or tablet in order to participate (please reach out to Emily in advance at e.ainaire@dover.nh.gov if you need to borrow a device to play on). We'll try out games such as Lie Swatter, Push the Button, Tee-K.O., and Trivia Murder Party. Jackbox Games are rated T for Teen.

CHILDREN EVENTS

Family Concert with Amy Conley (In-Person)

Tuesday, February 21 at 11 AM

Families with kids of all ages are invited to join us for this interactive music program. Amy Conley, with her puppets, songs and musical surprises (playing guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica and percussion) will inspire people to sing, dance, laugh, and to explore music and the imagination together.

Winter STEM Event (In-Person)

Wednesday, February 22 at 3 PM

Enjoy an afternoon exploring Snow and Ice through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Children ages 3 and up (and their caregivers) are welcome to participate in this event.

Crafternoon: Fluffy Winter Slime (In-Person)

Thursday, February 23 at 3 PM

Let's celebrate winter! Kids in grades 1 and up are invited to make and take Fluffy Winter Slime. Preschoolers, with an adult care-giver, are welcome to attend as well.

Frozen Interactive Movie (In-Person)

Friday, February 24 at 10 AM

Join Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Friends for an interactive movie viewing in the Lecture Hall. We will provide Movie Prop Bags to every child attending. Plan to sing along and have a super fun Frozen experience! Please register prior to the event.

ALL AGES EVENTS

LEGO Club (In-Person)

Saturday, February 25 at 2 PM

Come build with us at LEGO Club! We will have a specific "Challenge-of-the-day" to work on or you can build your own creation. This is a family event for people age 5-99.

ADULT EVENTS

Dungeons and Dragons for Adults (In-Person)

Tuesday, February 21 at 6 PM

Ages 18+ can drop in and play Dungeons and Dragons every Tuesday night at the library. You do not need to have attended previous sessions to enjoy the game. No experience or materials are required and all skill levels are welcome.

The Dogs of Chernobyl: A Story of Hope & Resilience (Virtual)

Wednesday, February 22 at 6:30 PM

35 years after the nuclear accident Stephen Quandt went to Chernobyl to participate in a spay/neuter and research campaign for the dogs that were descended from the pets left behind after the nuclear plant disaster of 1986. With many personally shot photos and videos, he will tell his story of meeting the inhabitants of the mostly abandoned town of Chernobyl City, the totally abandoned city of Pripyat, and the dogs (and some cats!) that they encountered. Sign up is needed to receive a link to the program.

Yin Yoga for Adults (In-Person)

Wednesday, February 22 at 7 PM

Join instructor Bridget Harton this winter and spring for FREE half hour Yin Yoga classes on the last Wednesday of the month in the Library's Lecture Hall. Wear loose comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or a blanket to place on the floor. Space is limited, but registration isn't required.

Cocheco River Writers (In-Person)

Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 PM

Join a community of local writers with Cocheco River Writers! This group meets the 4th Thursday of every month and welcomes all skill levels. Discuss ideas, get tips, and share your work with others in a low-key, inviting atmosphere. Whether you want to write creatively for fun or for publication, this group is a great way to hone your craft!

Introduction to Exel (In-Person)

Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 PM

Join us for an Introduction to Excel with Peggy! This class will cover rows, columns, formulas, sorting and more. The class size is limited to 8 people and will take place in the technology corner at the Dover Public Library. Sign up needed.
