The University of New Hampshire Extension is offering a range of resources aimed at helping nonprofit leaders, municipal staff, and community group members improve their grant writing skills. Recognizing that many individuals tasked with fundraising may lack specialized experience, the organization has developed materials to guide users through the grant writing process and build lasting competencies.
UNH Extension specialists are frequently approached by community groups for assistance with grant applications. While they do not write grants on behalf of others, they focus on providing guidance and educational support. “We do want to help you with wayfinding through the process and developing your own lasting skills so that you can succeed in your fund development endeavors both now and in the future,” a statement from UNH Extension said.
Among the available resources is a one-hour webinar titled “Building Community Readiness for Project Funding,” presented by Sue Cagle and Scott Slattery from the Community and Economic Development team. Additionally, Dr. Kendra Lewis from the Health and Well-Being team joins Dr. Jada Lindblom for a recorded interview called “Navigating the Grant Writing Process.” In this conversation, they discuss strategies for approaching grant writing positively and making the process more enjoyable.
For those hesitant to begin applying for grants, UNH Extension recommends reading “5 Excuses to Not Apply for Grants and How to Overcome Them.” The organization also periodically offers workshops and educational series focused on grant writing and fundraising. Interested individuals can subscribe to their monthly e-newsletter, “Community & Economic Development Update,” to stay informed about upcoming trainings.
UNH Professional Development and Training offers an “Introduction to Grantwriting” course as well as other certificate programs related to nonprofit management for those seeking more in-depth instruction.
The organization encourages feedback on topics related to grant writing or fundraising that people would like covered in future programming. “If there’s a certain grant writing or fund development topic you’d like to learn more about, please let us know and we will consider including it in our future UNH Extension programming!” according to UNH Extension.
