City of Dover: Mayor, City Council honors Dover High School golf champion, Carys Fennessy

City of Dover issued the following announcement on March 15.

Mayor Robert Carrier and the City Council at its March 9 meeting honored Dover High School freshman Carys Fennessey, who won the girl's state individual title this fall. Fennessey has played golf since she was four years old and has been a top-ranked golfer in her age division for years. She nearly won the Cochecho Country Club's women's championship at 10.

"It's incredible," Carrier told Fennessey. "What you've done is incredible."

Carrier read the following proclamation about Fennessey at the meeting :

WHEREAS: Golf prodigy Carys Fennessy was born and raised in Dover, where she lives with her parents Matthew and Candace and her brother Desmond; and 

WHEREAS: After watching her Dad practice at home, Carys began playing golf herself at age 4, swinging a plastic club in the backyard at home; and

WHEREAS: Carys' father, Matt, is the Dover High School Golf Coach. He would bring her to team practices and listen to her advice as she watched the players; and

WHEREAS: Carys played in 15 events this season and finished 1st seven times. She finished under four par in four rounds, including a career tournament-best 67 (-5) in the State AM, where she finished 3rd. Her scoring average in 18-hole events was 76.5; and

WHEREAS: She was a medalist in 8 of 10 varsity matches during the season and has the best scoring average at Dover High School in the last 35 years at 35.5 and;

WHEREAS: She recently claimed the title of Best in State for NHIAA Girls Golf Individual Championship, with her father presenting her with the trophy.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROBERT CARRIER, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE, AND THE ENTIRE DOVER CITY COUNCIL DO HEREBY CONGRATULATE:
