Celebrate Women’s History Month by discovering New York City’s elite women who turned a feminist cause into a fashionable revolution.

On Monday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m., Dover Public Library will host a Perspectives Book Discussion of Johanna Neuman’s book “Gilded Suffragists: The New York Socialites Who Fought for Women’s Right to Vote.” Participants may attend in person or sign up at the library’s website to attend virtually. Copies of the book will be available at the library to keep or share with others while supplies last. We ask that people taking a book make every effort to attend the discussion.

This event was made possible through a grant awarded by the New Hampshire Humanities. It will be facilitated by humanities scholar Liz Tentarelli.

The goal of the New Hampshire Humanities Perspective book discussion grant is for participants to engage with diverse perspectives in the humanities through literature to build understanding and empathy, and to support a culture of reading in New Hampshire. More information about New Hampshire Humanities may be found at their website nhhumanities.org.

Liz Tentarelli has a career spanning over 30 years teaching high school and college students, including 19 years at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. Although history was not her field, women’s history has been a long-time interest and avocation.

Tentarelli has been a member of the League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, for more than 25 years and president of the state League since 2009. The League is a direct descendant organization of the women’s suffrage movement.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information call the Library at 603-516- 6050.
