Dover Police Chief William M. Breault announces the following street closures and parking restrictions for the series of Dover 400 events occurring from Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4.

Saturday, 

July 1Block Party

The following streets will be closed to all traffic to allow the Dover 400 Block Party to operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

• Central Avenue southbound, from Second to Washington streets;
• Henry Law Avenue, from Washington to Williams streets.

Southbound traffic on Central Avenue will be detoured via Second Street to Chestnut Street. Motorists should expect delays in the downtown area.

Parking restrictions on Central Avenue and Henry Law Avenue will be posted in advance.Limited parking for the block party event will be available in the Orchard Street parking garage, the Dover Public Library/McConnell Center municipal lot, and the Dover Transportation Center lot.

Concerts will be held in the Henry Law Park Rotary Arts Pavilion from 12 to 8 p.m.

Sunday, 

July 2Parade

The Dover 400 Parade begins at 3 p.m. The parade will follow the same traditional route of the annual Holiday Parade, starting at the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce, 550 Central Ave., and following Central Avenue (Route 108) south through downtown to Cleary Cleaners, 120 Central Ave., across from Pine Hill Cemetery.

Central Avenue (Route 108) will be closed to all traffic from 2:45 to 5 p.m. between Chestnut Street/New York Street and the Stark Avenue/East Watson Street intersections. This includes much of the downtown area. Temporary traffic detours will be in effect.

Additional street closures will be in effect to accommodate parade staging and setup. These include:

• Sixth Street between Horne Street and Central Avenue;
• Maple Street between Sixth and Hough streets;
• Grove Street between Fifth and Hough streets;
• Mount Vernon Street between Sixth and Milk streets.

Parking restrictions will be posted on Sixth Street on Sunday, July 2, to accommodate parade staging and in certain other locations where necessary along the parade route.

Dover Police are coordinating with CSX Railways to temporarily suspend freight trains at the downtown crossings to accommodate the parade. Amtrak Downeaster passenger train service will not be interrupted.

Tuesday, 

July 4Fireworks

The City will hold concurrent Fourth of July fireworks displays at two locations: Maglaras Park (near Henry Law Park) and Garrison Hill Park. Both Maglaras and Garrison Hill parks will be closed to the public.

The fireworks displays can be viewed from Henry Law Park or other downtown locations, or from locations along Central Avenue from Oak Street northward to the Hannaford and Shaw’s plazas. A concert performance by the 39th Army Band will be held at the Rotary Arts Pavilion from 7 to 9 p.m., and fireworks will begin at about 9:15 p.m.

At the onset of darkness on July 4, Henry Law Avenue and its surrounding streets that include River, George, and Williams streets will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic to ensure the safety of fireworks viewing.
